Home Automation is a new field that is growing rapidly. You can automate anything in your house and control it remotely. This gives you statistics on usage and gives you access to your house while you are away to control your heater, coffee machine, and the lightning.

In this small project, I will be controlling an LED lamp through WiFi. This will be a small step that will help you learn the basics of home automation. After completing this project, you will be able to just remove your old filament lamps and replace them with LED lamps that can be controlled remotely from anywhere, all while saving energy.

The next step will be a guide that will help you control anything you want in your house. The theme over here is baby steps that will eventually give you the enough qualification to fully automate your home.

A solar oven is a device which uses the energy of direct sunlight to heat, cook or pasteurize food or drink,many solar ovens currently in use are relatively inexpensive, low tech devices, although some are as powerful or as expensive as traditional stoves, and advanced, large-scale solar ovens can cook for hundreds of people.Because they use no fuel and cost nothing to operate, many nonprofit organizations are promoting their use worldwide in order to help reduce fuel costs (especially where monetary reciprocity is low) and air pollution, and to slow down the deforestation and desertification caused by gathering firewood for cooking. Solar cooking is a form of out door and is often used in situations where minimal fuel consumption is important, or the danger of accidental fires is high, and the health and environmental consequences of alternatives are severe.

Archimedes wind turbine is a new small-scale wind turbine — one that is almost silent and is far more efficient at converting wind into energy. It has a small form factor comparing to other wind turbine designs and the blades shape is based on the angular momentum conservation law, the design formula for the blade was derived using a variety of shape factors.

Blades are shaped like a Nautilus shell. The design allows it to point into the wind to capture the most amount of energy, while also producing very little sound. The inventor of the turbine, Marinus Mieremet, says that the power output is 80 percent of the theoretical maximum energy that could be harnessed from the wind.

Project: S.P.R.E.E. (Solar Photovoltaic Renewable Electron Encapsulator), is an experiment in alternative energy and solar generated electricty.The impetus for construction was the desire to have my cellular phone and other small electronics run entirely from free* renewable solar energy.

The goal was to spend the least amount of money possible to design, construct, and maintain a portable, weather-proof, small-scale solar powered battery charger to re-charge any small electronics. Since I live in Southern California, with plenty of sun, the plan is to leave it charging on my balcony during the day, then charge my cellular phone at night. Note: Do not place on a balcony rail like I did, that was just for the picture.

My design was inspired from a do-it-yourself section I saw in Popular Science. The DIY section in Popular Science was a good start, but it lacked complete directions. I did like how article listed how much and where to purchase components.

After reading that article, I searched other corners of the internet and developed my own design. I then researched the project, and gathered the parts for about $160, including taxes and shipping costs. I have friends that own an auto shop, RPM Brakes who let me use their multi meter, soldering iron, and they had plenty of extra connectors around.
